Brass Pressing
Background
One of the of the largest manufacturers of plumbing fitting and taps in Europe, this customer was experiencing problems at their dedicated hot brass pressing facility, which utilised graphite oil on a multitude of presses.
They employed a large electrostatic oil mist filtration system, but this required servicing every two to three weeks and was providing little protection. With a facility suffering from severe oil smoke pollution, there were complaints from the workforce and subsequent visits from the Health & Safety Executive. The Environment Agency had prevented them from discharging the oil smoke directly outside of the building.
Problem
Vokes Air engineers conducted a full survey of the facility and found high levels of oil smoke being discharged from the electrostatic filtration system. Graphite oil smoke had condensed and formed solid deposits upon the ceilings, walls and floors.
Solution
Vokes Air recommended the installation of:
- ScandMist MA 350R units
- ScandMist MA 200R units
- ScandMist MA 100R units
- Improved containment
With improved containment on the presses, we recommended that one ScandMist MA 350R unit be attached by ducting to two presses. The company decided to purchase one ScandMist 350R unit to test its effectiveness.
Testing proved the ScandMist unit to be exceptionally effective, and provided a filter life of up to two years rather than two to three weeks of the electrostatic filtration system.
Outcome
The company were delighted with the results and have since installed ScandMist on all of their presses and also in the machine shops.
