Turned Parts
Background
This international high volume turned parts manufacturer was using 70 coil fed auto lathes
and neat oil.
- Working 24/7
- Had been using centrifugal oil mist collectors for each machine
- Workforce had complained about mist and HSE inspectors monitoring
Problem
The old technology centrifugal oil mist systems had become completely overwhelmed
and were simply discharging all the extracted oil mist directly back into the facility. Causing:
- Oil wet ceilings
- Oil wet walls
- Oil wet and slippery floors
- Oil dulled lighting
Large concentrations of oil mist in the air had created a very undesirable atmosphere in the
facility.
Solution
ScandMist engineers conducted a survey and produced a full report that highlighted the severity of the situation.
ScandMist engineers recommended a ScandMist MA 200 D unit with special oil filter to be connected by ducting to 10 machines.
The company, using a ducting contractor, installed the ScandMist MA 200 D unit connected to 24 machines.
Outcome
The company noticed such a staggering difference after the first installation that they immediately bought and installed a further ScandMist unit and connected it up to another 24 machines.
The ScandMist units were collecting and recovering 100 litres of oil per day, each, and the air outlet readings from the ScandMist units all measured better than the outside air measurements.
